Stay Away from People Who Ignore You Until They Need You

Some people only show up when it benefits them, when they need a favor, a connection, a solution. The rest of the time, they're silent, distant, or completely absent. At first, this can hurt. But with time, you learn: not everyone deserves a place in your emotional space.

Staying away from people who ignore you until they need you isn’t selfish, it’s self-respect. It’s recognizing that your energy, time, and presence have value. You’re not obligated to be available for those who only seek you out when it’s convenient for them, nor do you owe anyone an explanation for setting healthy boundaries.

These kinds of relationships, whether in friendships, family, or work are built on convenience, not genuine connection. That’s where the danger lies: when a relationship is rooted in usefulness, affection becomes transactional. You become invisible until you’re useful again.

Choose to surround yourself with people who see you even when you’re not fixing something, giving something, or doing something for them. People who value your presence, not just your contributions.

Because in the end, you deserve relationships that are mutual, authentic, and consistent, where care isn’t based on need, but on genuine presence.

Let’s call it what it is.
